I love what I do, I love that my work often emulates certain life long characteristics, skills, and interests of mine. Working for Pretty Thingz has not only expanded my customer service skills, but has truly opened my eyes to what being a person means. By definition, a person will be described by their physiological components, but being a human in my eyes is far more complex. It is a state of being that requires empathy, compassion, kindness, and an overall sense of worth, especially finding these qualities within others.
Currently, I am working the Lisa's Cosmetics show - which for those of you who do not know, is a cosmetology GOLD MINE! Seriously, you can find anything here, such as high name perfumes for more than 50% off. Viva La Juicy is $35.00 when the actual retail price is $89.00. Okay, let's get back on track! I think that my true calling has always been within my people skills. I deeply desire to help others, which is why guidance counselling and teaching have always been the dream. I am a great listener and love giving advice/helping others who need it. Working at the show I met two beautiful women, both mothers and sisters. They inspire me so much and we got along so well. In between laughs we shared stories and truly knew each other on a personal level. I learned so much about these women, and their stories truly warmed my heart and gave me a new appreciation for life. All the while these women felt I (ME, yes ME) that I was their inspiration! WHAT?! How?! These women have overcome so much, in life and health (which is not my story to tell). But, these individuals have requested to work with me again, and have gone on and on about my character such as complimenting me on my kind soul, exponential work ethic, and my good energy that is contagious. These women explained how they love working with me and how I was their favourite. Not to mention they were so happy to hear we would be working together this Spring, "You truly inspire me everyday."
We feed off of good energy. I am happy to be that person. It is just who I am and someone I will always be. It is irony...those who inspire you can quite often feed off of your inspiration. I could never imagine 2 working mothers grow to love a 20 year old part time worker, and crave my kindness and friendship. It made my heart skip beats knowing I have impacted another person's perception of me, and their outlook in life while going through hard times. I am blessed and fortunate to have others seeing me in the light I have always hoped to be seen in.
The moral of the story: There are individuals from all walks of life. Strike a conversation and get to know a stranger on a personal level. Be open, be honest, be friendly, be kind, and be yourself. Know who you are and know you are enough.
My mom always said: "There will be people who love you and people who hate you, above it all, just be you. Those who are worth your friendship will love you for who you are."
I encourage you to be yourself, and to relish in the little things in life. Being complimented for my character is something I take pride in. You owe it to yourself to find happiness in simplicity, in words of kindness and encouragement, which is why I do this often. I have been noted for my words of love, and that people feel so uplifted after hanging out with me. I believe life is too short to live in a negative, grudge filled mind. Lift up others frequently, and as often as you can. If you think someone looks beautiful or you like their presence, character, or anything at all, tell that person. I am not afraid to walk up to a stranger and compliment their makeup, or to stand up for a stranger if they are treated unfairly. If you are talking with your server and they are just super happy-go-lucky, compliment them! Everyone has a story you do not know about. The people you are lifting up could be torn down by others earlier that day. Life is short, a kind word could mean so much more than you know. I am sure there are people out there with different perceptions of my character, but I continually rise above, especially when I look at the little things in life that fill me up with love, laughter, and joy. These are what make a person rise above all the animosity the world brings. Always treat the world better than it treats you.
