To kick start my semester tomorrow I decided a girl's day would be beneficial to mentally prepare myself for the next 3 final months of school. Plus, we haven't had one of these girl's days in a long time. With Olivia back from Vegas it was nice to share some laughs. Of course, being my blogger self, I saw this as an opportunity to pull out my trusty Cannon DSLR to be the photographer for the day.
How gorgeous are my girls?
A few blogs back, Paulina and I had so much fun downtown and happened to stop at Sweet Jesus. Around the corner where I had parked my car was a friendly gentleman carrying a tray of sushi outside. It ended up being the owner of Maki My Way who stood outside with samples of the most popular rolls at his establishment. As we nibbled on a few offerings, it was IMMEDIATELY known that we had to bring our girls and try their entire menu. This sushi place is à la carte (which I always find tastier) however it can add up if you are someone like myself who tends to splurge at all you can eat. At AYCE sushi, you get your money's worth especially if you eat as much as I do.
Besides the point, the BEST thing about this sushi place is the ability to create and customize your perfect roll. YES that is right, you can MAKE YOUR OWN SUSHI ROLL. You can choose between soy paper and seaweed, crunch toppings, sesame seeds, 2 types of sauces, 2 veggies and or fruits, a protein and obviously can add any of the above as extras for a little fee. The sushi was to die for, honest to goodness was one of the best sushi places I have ever eaten at in Toronto.
Personally, I ordered the bento box (which I would recommend), I then customized a separate order (sweet potato spicy crab roll with teriyaki sauce and spicy mayo with extra crunch). The bento box was under $14.00 that includes: 2 gyoza or spring rolls, 4 California rolls (which I altered to rockin' california rolls), teriyaki rice with an extensive protein list options (I choose beef), seaweed salad or green salad optional and miso soup. In addition to my customized roll, edamame, crazy roll, and chicken karage (ALL RECOMMENDED), I left Maki My Way beyond satisfied. As opposed to all you can eat, you can take left overs home with you which is a great bonus. Paulina and I wanted to surprise Olivia with this spot for two reasons. One, we all love sushi and two, in Vegas, we would eat sushi burritos daily. Maki My Way has this option available...YUP you can have a sushi BURRITO!
I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this place. Everything tasted wonderful, and am currently craving the rolls as I write this, so if anyone who is reading this is interested in Maki My Way, please shoot me a message and we can head over ANYTIME! This restaurant prides itself on customer service which is a big bonus for me. Every sushi restaurant experience I have had, usually never left me with a lasting (positive) impression. My girls and I made so many modifications which was almost encouraged, I loved every moment of it as I genuinely got to have the perfect sushi experience. I can't wait to try other Gena exclusive variations, I may dub one the Gena Roll once I find a combination I like best.
After our sushi escapades, trip planning for summer 2017 and many laughs, we wanted to sight see our city and to be honest, we all wanted a picture of our beautiful CN Tower (come on...we ARE chicks from the six). Today, was FREEZING, -19 with the windchill we still managed to find the adrenaline to pose in frozen temperatures. We found the perfect spot (11 Polson Pier)| Cabana/Rebel are here | which is a great place to shoot besides travelling over the water to the islands. As you can see it is a beautiful, clear view of the city. The ice had frozen over and it was overall magical.
I truly enjoy taking pictures of my friends, I find my girls breath-takingely beautiful (inside and out).

After sushi, we wanted to go to Roselle but they closed earlier despite Yelp's hours of operation. After driving there a little dissapointed for the shop to be closed, we chose to not let this discourage our need for warm liquids. The hunt was on to find anything near and open to suppress our coffee and dessert needs. We drove to The Red Bench and snacked on hot chocolate and cookies. I personally loved: The Cookies and Cream Cookie & The Smores Cookie...yum!
May you all have a wonderful back to school start, perhaps you are back to work or even starting a new venture. Whatever your path may be, I truly hope it is a joyeous and prosperous one. Tons of love from my girls and I to you!
Olivia: "Don't worry honey, just means we need to make another trip to try Roselle"...and THAT we will!
